WEL-200: Understanding Our Upgrades for this Essential Edge Safety Sensor
The original WEL-200 serves as a long-time trusted wireless edge link that operates up to 200 feet of line of sight between transmitter and receiver and eliminates the need for wiring. It offers many advantages over other models, including its compliance with 2018 UL325 monitoring standards, compatibility with multiple types of monitored safety edges, and NEMA 4X enclosures.
Still, our team discovered a few features that we could innovate to improve the experiences of users and ensure this leading solution offers even more value to our customers.
Real-Time Signal Quality Display
Our primary motivation for these upgrades was to advance the signal quality display. Installers putting these on gates and doors in the field shared previous challenges in establishing a strong connection between the WEL Receiver and Transmitter. This meant they would have to return later and adjust the connection if it wasn’t properly established at the start, adding to the frustration of the installer and the user.
In our upgraded model, we’ve added a real-time signal quality display that uses a 0 to 9 scale to showcase bad to good connections. There are TX1 – TX4 LEDs that display transmitter connection quality, and you can cycle through them as needed with a simple button. This allows you to more quickly and easily diagnose installation issues and ensure a solid connection before you leave, saving time and headaches.
More Focused and Vivid User Interface
The WEL-200 streamlines the user interface to support a faster, easier setup for the installer with reorganized and relabeled sections. Rather than spreading out the various monitoring components of the user interface, we’ve contained them in the middle and left side of the board and added more descriptive labeling to the silkscreen. This ensures the installer immediately knows what a switch might do and can act more confidently during installation without the need for a manual.
We also removed the 10K jumpers, which were easy to lose in the previous model. Now, this functionality exists on the DIP switch, and installers can appreciate a smoother experience to shave off time during installation. In addition to these functional changes, we gave the board a new look by using white silkscreen to black PCB. This highlights the streamlined interface and brings it to attention, making it even easier to identify what you need in the field.
Antenna Warning Label
We added a new warning label to the back of the receiver housing to remind installers that the antenna should not be covered during the mounting process. Though this change may seem small, it adds an extra layer of protection in the installation process to ensure proper set-up. We also designed it to be easily removable if the WEL-RX is in a visible location.
